Email Spam
There seems to be a tremendous amont of email spam been delivered to many email addresses at the moment, and everybody I speak to is having the same problem. You may need to alter some settings in your email program to filter out some of the spam, or alternatively get hold of a new email program that deletes these emails before they are downloaded from your server.
To show you how bad things are at the moment, every day through the society email system over 1,000 spam emails are deleted by our server, and also on my private email system just a few less. These emails usually begin with:
"Undelivered Mail Returned to Sender"
or
"Mail delivery failed"
or
"Returned mail"
Nearly all these emails have been sent to your account and must not be replied to as it lets the spammers know that your email address is "Live" and therefor they know to carry on spamming your address. The best thing is to set your email program to automatically delete them as they arrive. For those using Outlook Express I have written a tutorial on the "Help" page for your assistance.
Isle of Axholme 1841, 1851 & 1861 Census CD's now available
We have now completed producing a CD version of the 1841, 1851 and 1861 Census transcriptions that cover the whole of the Isle of Axholme. It is a fully searchable database by either Surname or Household. The following parishes are included on the CD's. Althorpe, Amcotts, Belton, Crowle, Eastoft (Yorks & Lincs) Epworth, Garthorpe, Haxey, Luddington, West Butterwick, Owston Ferry & Wroot. Also covered are parts of the parishes of Adlingfleet, Ousefleet Reedness and Whitgift, as these are in the corner north of the Isle where the parish boundaries overlap with each other. The CD is now available from the Bookstall, and the price of these CD's will be £10 each (p&p for UK is 50p and the rest of the world is £1.00). We will be continuing the series with all the other census for the Isle in the near future, and we will still be producing the Census booklets for the individual parishes for those who require them in that format.
What a surprise!!
Following Lunch at the Day School, Chairman Derek Wells presented Norma and Eric Neill (our Secretary and Treasurer/Membership Secretary respectively) with a Certificate for Honourary Life Membership, a Card was signed by those present, together with a large flower arrangement, expressing the Society's sincere appreciation for their endeavours and commitment throughout the 20 years since the Isle of Axholme Family History Society was founded.

New Publications
We have now updated out publications page where you will find plenty of new, and updated booklets and CD's available to purchase. Because of the recent price rises advertised by Royal Mail, we have had to increase the postage price for a few of the "larger" booklets. We have kept most of the booklets at the same postal price which we will offset through our sales.
Journal on CD
The society has had all 79 of its journals dating back to 1987 digitised, and we have now put them altogether on a single CD which is available now from our Bookstall. It has been made searchable using Adobe Acrobat and will come with the latest edition of Adobe Reader. Many of the journals contain members interests from the Isle along with the regular family stories and info sent in by society members. The cost of the CD is £6.00, + 50p p&p(UK) and £1.00 for overseas postage, and is now available from our bookstall.
We seem to have had a very good response so far and many past and present members have sent for the CD. All the feedback we are getting tells us that the information contained on the CD has been very helpful in tracing other members researching the same surnames.
Our next meeting
We welcome old and new members to our next meeting when we welcome Society Menbers Sue Broadbent and Pat Smith, who will be talking to us about 'The Crosby Memorial' This will be held on the 22nd January 2009 at the Wesley Memorial Hall in Epworth. Our Library and Bookstall will be open, and light refreshments will be available.
Program for the coming 12 months
We have now updated our Program for 2009. You can find the revised list on the Programs tab on the left menu
THE EPWORTH BELLS
'Hatches, Matches and Dispatches'
Part 1
A new booklet has been produced that includes all the Birth, Marriage and Death entries that can be found in the first editions of the Epworth Bells Newspaper from 1873 to 1879. Although there are only a few Births, there are 452 marriage and 825 death entries. Many of them also include details of other family members and relations that Parish Registers hardly ever contain. There are also some announcements for Isle folk that have moved to pastures new, 'Strays'. The booklet is now available on our bookstall and can be ordered on the Publications page.
